Vintage 1931 Wedgwood commemorative plate featuring the Old Cadet Chapel, United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. Classic red transferware design with patriotic crests and cadet motifs. Collectible military academy memorabilia, marked Wedgwood, Staffordshire, England. Ideal gift for military history collectors, veterans, or display.
This commemorative plate was produced by Wedgwood, Staffordshire, England, in 1931 to honor the Old Cadet Chapel at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. The chapel, originally built in 1836, is one of West Point’s most historic structures, serving as the spiritual heart of the academy until the newer Cadet Chapel was completed in 1910. The Old Cadet Chapel was relocated stone by stone to the cemetery in 1910, where it still stands as a lasting monument.
The plate’s red transferware design captures the chapel’s neoclassical architecture surrounded by trees. Around the border are symbols of military life, including cadet crests, weaponry, books, and patriotic emblems. The top features West Point’s motto “Duty, Honor, Country”, while the backstamp notes the plate’s creation for the 1931 issue, part of Wedgwood’s tradition of commemorating significant American landmarks.
These plates were produced in limited numbers for academy alumni, cadets, and military families, making them highly desirable today as both American military memorabilia and fine Staffordshire collector’s china.
